The virtual healthcare landscape has been expanding at a rapid pace, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Oncology nurses find themselves in the middle of this digital advancement. While there are many benefits and promises of virtual care, this new healthcare delivery platform runs the risk of creating and exacerbating disparities in care due to what has been termed “The Digital Divide.” Participating in virtual care requires access, digital literacy, and the availability of technology and the internet. Patients who struggle in these areas run the risk of being left out of the promise of improved health outcomes of virtual clinical care.

The “Bridging the Digital Divide in Clinical Care” session will be held during ONS Bridge™ on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, from 1–2 pm. Join Dr. Mark Rastetter, MD, Dr. Cynthia Sieck, PhD, MPH, and oncology nurse practitioner Caitlin Rose Grady, MSN, FNP-C, from Ohio State University as they participate in a panel discussion exploring this concept and learn how oncology nurses can lead the way to identify patients at risk for this health disparity. We will also discuss how to mitigate the emerging clinical gap and improve access and equity in virtual care.
