Q: What is an e-book?
An e-book is an electronic version of a book that is meant to be read on a device such as a computer, tablet, e-reader, smartphone or Android device. E-books come in many different file formats and may have restrictions on what you can do with them, such as downloading, printing, or sharing.
Q: How do I log in?
If you are an ONS member and have created a profile on ONS’s website, click on “Login” on the top left of the screen and enter this information. If you are not a member or have not set up an online profile, click on “Create Your New Account” to create an account.
Q: I am not an ONS member. Do I have to create an account to purchase an e-book?
Q: Do I need to be connected to the Internet to access my purchased e-books?
An Internet connection is necessary to log in, complete purchases, and download (save) purchases to your computer. Once a PDF file is saved on your device, you can read it offline.
Q: What devices or programs can I use to read ONS e-books?
We currently use PDF formats for our e-books. You can read these files using Adobe Reader, a free software program. PDF files can be opened in web browsers, iBooks on Apple devices, and the built-in PDF reader on second-generation Kindle devices.
Q: How can I use an ONS e-book?
Once you have purchased an ONS e-book, you can view, download, and print the book. Opening the file in Adobe Reader provides additional features, such as the ability to search, bookmark, highlight, and make notes in the text.
Q: Can I download my purchased e-book more than once?
Yes. You will have an unlimited number of times to download it on multiple devices for personal use.
Q: If I buy an e-book, can I put a copy on our computer or on our intranet for everyone in my department to share?
E-book purchases are intended for use by the individual purchaser only. If you or your institution is interested in a multi-user license for ONS e-books, please contact Acquisitions Editor John Zaphyr at 412-859-6356 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q: How can I access my purchases?
To view all of your purchases click on “My Account” and “Files” on the top of the page. If you are not logged in, you will be asked to provide your username and password. Once logged in, you can view your previous orders and access the files to view online or save to your computer.
Q: I’m looking for a book published by ONS but it is not here.
Not all of our titles are available as e-books. If you’d like to recommend a particular title for our e-book catalog, please let us know at email@example.com.
Q: Where can I buy print copies of ONS books?
ONS’s print books are available at www.ons.org/store. A link to the print version is also included on each e-book’s page. Although our print and electronic books must be purchased separately, you can conveniently use your ONS login on both sites.
Q: What is your return policy for e-books?
All sales are final for digital media.
