Learn how you can better address quality-of-life (QOL) issues with your patients to help them maintain QOL throughout the cancer continuum. Specifically created to address the needs of oncology APNs, the Quality-of-Life Issues—Oncology APN online course presents an extensive look at QOL considerations related to psychosocial issues, survivorship, and palliative care. This course is designed for advanced practice nurses with some experience in oncology.

To receive nursing continuing professional development (NCPD) contact hours, the following requirements must be met prior to the closing date and time of the course: 

  • Achieve 80% or higher on the post‐test. (Note: You will have two [2] attempts to achieve a score of 80% or higher on the post-test.)
  • Completion of the course evaluation. A course evaluation MUST be completed to be granted the NCPD contact hours. The evaluation link is locked until passing the post-test.

QOL is a multidimensional concept that can be difficult to define due to the subjective nature of both positive and negative aspects of life. In this course you will further discover how psychosocial issues in cancer, cancer survivorship, and palliative care impact a patient’s QOL.

  • Psychosocial Issues in Cancer: theories, QOL, distress, cultural influences, cognitive impairment, sleep disturbance, spirituality, sexual alterations
  • Cancer Survivorship: survivorship issues, treatment effects, survivorship care planning, lifestyle and employment, case study
  • Palliative and End-of-Life Care: definitions, difficult conversations, advanced care planning, care settings, medicare hospice benefits, interprofessional teams, symptom management, psychosocial support

Expected Outcomes

Upon completion of this activity, the learner will demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based strategies and guidelines for quality-of-life, survivorship, and end-of-life care of the patient with cancer by achieving at least 80% on the post-test.

Target Audience

This course is designed for APNs with oncology experience who want to increase their knowledge about critical components of the APN's role in cancer care. This course is also appropriate for APNs preparing for advanced oncology certification or renewal via ILNA renewal points.
