Pregabalin

Pregabalin is an anticonvulsant used to relieve neuropathic pain and is used with other medications to treat certain types of seizures. It works by decreasing the number of pain signals that are sent out by damaged nerves in the body. Pregabalin comes as a capsule to take by mouth. Pregabalin has been studied in patients with cancer as an intervention for pain and peripheral neuropathy. It has also been studied for its effect on anxiety and sleep-wake disturbances.

Cranial Stimulation

Cranial stimulation is a complementary medicine intervention that provides electrical stimulation to the brain. Cranial electrical stimulation studied in patients with cancer was delivered via a medical device that delivered a programmed level of electrical stimulation via electrodes attached to the earlobes with a low intensity delivered from a battery source. This intervention was studied in patients with cancer for its effect on fatigue and sleep/wake disturbance.

Triclosan Mouth Rinse

Triclosan is a broad spectrum antibacterial agent with anti-inflammatory properties. A mouth rinse containing triclosan was examined for its effect on oral mucositis.

Triamcinolone Acetonide

Triamcinolone acetonide is a synthetic corticosteroid. The drug is available over the counter as a nasal spray to treat allergic rhinitis. In addition, triamcinolone acetonide can be used to relieve itching, redness, dryness, crusting, scaling, or inflammation. It has been investigated as a topical intervention for oral mucositis.

Trazodone

Trazodone is an antidepressant drug that is believed to act by inhibiting serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake. It is approved for use in major depression and has been used off-label for other symptoms, such as panic disorder.

Transmucosal Opioids

Transmucosal opioids are used to manage breakthrough pain in patients with cancer. These medications include various formulations such as buccal tablets, soluble film, lozenges, and nasal spray. Fentanyl nasal spray is used to treat breakthrough pain in patients aged 18 years or more who take regularly scheduled doses of another opioid. Fentanyl is an opiate analgesic with a relatively short half-life that can be rapidly absorbed via the nasal mucosa.

Transmucosal Fentanyl

Transmucosal fentanyl is a formulation of the opioid fentanyl intended for oral administration that is absorbed directly through the mucous membranes in the mouth. Healthcare professionals should be aware of the different formulations for these medications, the length of their half-life, and the onset of action.

Transforming Growth Factor

Transforming growth factor beta 2 (TGF-beta 2) is a cytokine peptide present in human and bovine milk that plays a role in anti-inflammatory responses and may have beneficial effects on intestinal mucosa and epithelium. TGF-beta 2 dietary supplementation was examined for its effect on radiation-induced diarrhea in patients with cancer.

Transdermal Granisetron

Granisetron is in a class of drugs known as serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonists. It works by blocking serotonin activity in the chemoreceptor trigger zone. Granisetron is taken by mouth as a tablet or solution to prevent CINV.
